Making Exercise a Fun Part of Your Life

Leading a healthy lifestyle means eating right, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly. But let’s face it; most people don’t exercise regularly because they simply don’t enjoy it.
Do you enjoy exercise? If not, you’re not alone …
The good news is that there are many forms of exercise that you can incorporate into your life that are fun to do. It’s just a matter of finding the exercises that you enjoy. Remember any activity that you do that involves moving your body, is a form of exercise.
One way that you can start moving more is to find a sport you enjoy! There are many types of sports that you can choose to play depending on your interests and level of fitness: golf, tennis, biking club, or even martial arts. Yes. I said martial arts. Martial arts are an excellent form of exercise for all ages. It helps maintain your coordination and balance; helps with your flexibility and strength; and of course you burn a lot of calories.
Group exercises such as boot camps are another choice that you can make when it comes to getting in your weekly quota of physical fitness. Group exercise generally takes place at a gym and more and more fitness centers are offering group exercise as a fun alternative to a normal routine of lifting weights. If you happen to live in the Detroit Metro area, you can contact me for information on my boot camps. My focus is the over-40 age group.
When you exercise with a group of people, you’re often more motivated to keep going since being part of a team with the similar goal of getting in shape is a powerful incentive.
You may also want to try semi-private training. Here’s how it works …
To get started, you can find one or two friends or family members that you enjoy spending time with and then find a personal trainer in your area that will train you and your friends at the same time. Not only will you motivate each other, you will save money, because trainers will usually offer you a group rate at a reduced price.
Another way that you can introduce and maintain an adequate level of fitness in your life is to find an activity that you love doing. This may take some experimenting, but once you find it, exercising will be fun.
Some choices that you might want to consider are: biking, hiking, power walking, or rebounding (jumping on a mini trampoline). All of these fitness activities will give your heart the required workout, strengthen your muscles, and get your body moving.
No matter where you are in your life, fitness should become a part of your daily routine. Exercise is essential if you’re going to lead and maintain a healthy life. Find your favorite form of exercise and stick with it so you can enjoy the benefits of a healthy body and mind.
Action step for Today…
Pick an exercise that you have never done before and try it. Who knows, it may be fun. If not, keep trying new exercises until you find one that you enjoy.
