God Does Not Lie!

Do you ever feel like God doesn’t care about you? Do you wonder why He seems so distant at times – especially in times of great need or crisis?

If so, then you’re not alone. I too have had these feelings. And anybody who says they’ve never had these feelings is probably lying. The good news is that God NEVER lies.

“God is not man, one given to lies, and not a son of man changing his mind. Does he speak and not do what he says? Does he promise and not come through?” Numbers 23:19 (The Message)

During my morning devotional today, this verse really popped out at me. I immediately stopped reading and began to meditate on how awesome God is. When God makes a promise, He keeps it. For example, when God said in Hebrews 13:5,I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee“, He meant it. You can be assured, even though God may seem to be a million miles away at times, He is right there with you every moment of your life. He knows the challenges you face and the tears you shed and He does care!

Action step for today …

I encourage you to read Numbers 23:19 over and over again and then stop and meditate on the fact that God NEVER lies and He always keeps His promises. Make a decision today to trust the promises of God even though He may seem distant. When we genuinely trust God, I believe it puts a smile on His face.

Find Rest through Meditation

Is it okay for a Christian to Meditate? Isn’t meditation some kind of “New Age” thing?

Nothing could be farther from the truth. First of all, God speaks of meditation throughout scripture. God actually instructed Joshua to meditate. See reference below:

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate thereon day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Josh.1:8 – KJV).

Here are a few additional examples of references to meditation in scripture:

Ø May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer  (Psalms 19:14 – NIV)

Ø My mouth will speak wisdom, And the meditation of my heart will be understanding. (Psalms  49:3 – NASB)

Ø Let my meditation be pleasing to Him; As for me, I shall be glad in the LORD. (Psalms  104:34- NASB)

Ø O how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. (Psalms  119:97 – NASB)

Ø I have more insight than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation. (Psalms  119:99 – NASB)

Although there are many forms of mediation, the form of mediation that the Organic Brain and Body Fitness System teaches is simply a time to unplug, rest your mind, contemplate or reflect on something uplifting such as scripture, as Joshua was instructed to do.

Webster’s definition of meditation is “to engage in contemplation or reflection.”

What does Christian meditation involve?

Most forms of meditation focus only on becoming silent and open. However, the main focus of Christian meditation is on developing an intimate relationship with God.

Meditation can also be used to practice a new way of thinking…

If you want to change or improve an area in your life, you must practice or meditate on your new way of thinking. It will never become part of you until you practice it (meditate on it). For example, if you want to be more patient, you can develop patience by meditating on scriptures dealing with patience, and then when patience is required you will be prepared.

Action Step for Today …

Take some time everyday to meditate. Even if you just sit quietly in your favorite chair for five minutes and do nothing but relax and think about your favorite scripture. Try it – it will re-energize you.

More Tips for a Better Brain and Memory

Avoid negative thinking. What you focus on the most will become larger. For example, if you focus on a negative situation in your life, it will seem larger, which can cause anxiety and depression. Instead learn to focus on the good things in your life.

I’m sure you’ve heard this one before … Get enough sleep! A lack of sleep, less than 7 hours, decreases blood flow to the brain. I personally need at least 8 hours to perform at my best. If possible, a sleeping schedule between 10:30 PM and 7:30 AM is best.  If you have trouble getting to sleep at night due to a stressful day, try spending a half hour or so before bedtime doing something relaxing. Reading tends to relax me. And one thing that really helps me is to pray in bed. Not only is it a great time to spend with God, because there are no distractions, but it is also a great de-stressor.

Pleasing God with Your Body

During my morning devotional today, I was confronted with an important question, “Am I pleasing God with my body?” While meditating on 1 Corinthians. 6:19, which states that our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit, I was reminded that it’s not just the food we eat or the exercise we get, it’s also how we use our bodies and our minds.

I believe to achieve true health and fitness; we must treat our bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit… That includes carefully choosing our words and especially our thoughts.

Think about it…

Most of the actions we take start with a simple thought. If an impure thought is entertained long enough, it will eventually manifest itself in someway sooner or later. I believe this is the root cause of many of our health problems, because a toxic mind breads disease. I know for me the longer I dwell on a thought, the more difficult it is to dismiss it. So what I’ve learned to do is to dismiss it right away. I’m still not perfect at it, but I’m getting better.

Do you struggle with addictions or impure thoughts?

If so, I encourage you to notice when that thought first enters your mind. Then don’t fight it, just immediately begin to think about something else. This may sound simple, but it works.

For many years I was addicted to processed sugar. I couldn’t get enough of it. Although I have been health conscious since I was about 12 years old, I couldn’t seem to break the sugar addiction. As a teen, I could easily eat an entire box of Twinkies, and then one day I discovered that I could break that addiction by detoxifying my body by switching to unprocessed foods, such as organic foods.

So I switched to organic foods. During the time of detoxifying my body, I had urges for processed sugar, so I learned to immediately switch my thoughts to something else. For example, I would start thinking about my family’s upcoming trip to Disney World and then that lead to the thought of how great it would be to have more energy to walk around the Disney parks.

What this did for me was amazing. I felt so good about the thought of enjoying myself at Disney World that I stopped thinking about the processed sugar treat. This new thinking along with the detoxification of my body broke that processed sugar addition and it’s been great.

Before going on, I want you to understand that it wasn’t just my thinking that broke the addiction; it was a combination of new thinking and eating unprocessed foods. You can’t simply rely on thinking alone, you must also take action.

Action Step for today:

Practice recognizing the thoughts that come into mind that you know will cause you problems and prevent you from enjoying the life you’ve always wanted.

Remember, when that first thought comes, you have a choice to make at that very moment. You can’t play with that thought; you can’t entertain that thought; you can’t even spend a moment struggling with it. Instead you must dismiss it or it will take you down.

Stop right now and resolve in your heart and mind that you do have a chose in what thoughts you chose to entertain.

When that first addictive or impure thought enters your mind try this …

v First, remember that you are a child of the living God and that He has given you power to overcome

v Then, immediately switch your thinking to something that makes you feel good, like an upcoming vacation or anything that will distract your mind, like quoting one of your favorite Bible verses.

I welcome your comments, suggestions, and questions, so go ahead and leave your comments. I’d love to hear from you. Also, if you’d like for me to cover a topic in more detail or cover a topic that I have not talked about yet, just let me know.

God’s Word will NEVER return void!

“When Joseph got home, they presented him with the gifts they had brought and bowed respectfully before him.” Genesis 43:26

This Bible verse of course is talking about Joseph’s brother’s bowing down to him, which is what Joseph dreamed about as a boy. This dream is what started a chain reaction of events that lead Joseph on a difficult journey, but ultimately lead him to being second in command of all Egypt.

The “Joseph Story” and especially this verse shows me that when God gives you a dream, as He did Joseph, He WILL bring it to pass, but we must have patience and remain faithful to Him during the journey.

If you have a dream inside of you, be encouraged … No matter what circumstances you are facing in your life today, remember that God’s Word will NEVER return void! Keep trusting Him even if you don’t understand what He is doing. He will not fail you. He will give you the desires of your heart as long as your heart is pure.

Action step for today…

If you’re not already doing so, I encourage you to start a daily Bible study. Make reading God’s Word apart of your daily life. I promise you, it will change your life. For many years of my Christian life, I did not consistently read the Bible. I always desired a closer relationship with God and didn’t understand why my faith was not stronger.

Once I started consistently reading His Word daily, my faith began to grow. I still have a lot of spiritual growing to do, but I’m on my way.

I’d like to hear from you — your experiences and challenges and how God brought you through will help encourage others.
